What are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are removable orthodontic appliances that fit snugly over your upper or lower dental arch. Like braces, they place mild pressure on your teeth and jaw, slowly improving their alignment and position.

What Types of Issues Can Clear Aligners Treat?

The DenTull team uses clear aligners to treat various alignment issues, including:

  • Crowding
  • Crooked teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Misaligned jaws

Clear aligners can treat bite abnormalities, including underbite, overbite, and crossbite.

Are there different types of clear aligners?

The DenTull team offers orthodontic treatment with several types of clear aligners, including:

Invisalign®
Invisalign aligners are made from a special thermoplastic called SmartTrack®. SmartTrack doesn’t use gluten, BPA, or latex, making treatment safe for pregnant people and those with allergies.

SureSmile®
SureSmile aligners look similar to Invisalign aligners, but they’re made from thinner and more malleable plastic. The design makes them ideal for treating alignment issues that require extra torque –– the force that gives your dentist control over the position of your teeth.

After an oral exam and a series of digital X-rays, the team develops a personalized orthodontic treatment plan.

What Does Treatment With Clear Aligners Involve?

If your DenTull provider determines you can benefit from clear aligner treatment, they take digital impressions of your mouth with an intraoral scanner and create a care plan using a computer-aided design (CAD) program.

Your provider uses the program to map the step-by-step movements of your teeth and jaw. Then, they send your scans to a nearby dental lab that manufactures a set of personalized clear aligners.

When the lab finishes your aligners, you return to DenTull and try them on. Then, your dentist gives you instructions for wearing and cleaning them.

To achieve optimal results, wear your clear aligners for 20–22 hours daily, only removing them to brush your teeth or eat.

How long does treatment with clear aligners take?

Orthodontic treatment with clear aligners takes 12–18 months on average*, but it might take longer, depending on your goals and the alignment issues addressed.

Every few months, you visit DenTull for orthodontic checkups. At each visit, the team monitors your progress and provides you with a new set of clear aligners. Each new set is slightly different, helping move your teeth and jaw into position.
